Vectorworks Releases SimTread 2.5 Add-on

COLUMBIA, MD, USA, May 28, 2017 - Global design and BIM software developer Vectorworks, Inc. announces version 2.5 of the pedestrian simulation software add-on for Vectorworks 2017 software, SimTread. Created by Japanese Vectorworks distributor A&A Co., Ltd. in partnership with Waseda University and Takenaka Corporation, SimTread helps in simulating and analysing a variety of crowd control needs, such as evaluating evacuation times, building egress and traffic flow. Updates for this version include improvements for video export quality and a more detailed analysis that offers the ability to efficiently add time-dependent events like evacuations, as well as account for different occupants, such as individuals in wheelchairs.

As a flow-analysis tool, SimTread helps those working in disaster preparedness, public safety, facilities management, as well as event, municipal or campus planning. SimTread can assist in and optimises a design’s circulation pattern – whether directing the slow meandering of people through an art museum or expediting the exit of tens of thousands of people from a football stadium.

“We’re always looking for new ways to help designers work more efficiently by putting the information they need at their fingertips,” said Jeremy Powell, senior marketing director at Vectorworks. “Updates for this SimTread version will improve productivity for the design and planning of pedestrian flow and evacuation safety.”

Updates for the latest SimTread release include:
  • Improved plot tracking, which provides a more in-depth analysis by enabling the ability to plot and display the specified path occupants take to reach their destinations.
  • The new Show/Select SimTread Object command helps users save time by showing or selecting all instances of specified SimTread object types.
  • The duplicate transfer points update provides a command that streamlines the creation of a simulation of a multi-story building by allowing the replication of transfer points at stairwells.
  • Enhanced anti-aliasing and H264 video codec parameters for higher-quality video output.
“SimTread helps designers make better, more data-driven decisions when it comes to optimizing their layouts for crowd flow and safety,” said Dr. Takeshi Kimura, manager of product development at A&A. “As such, we continually work to improve the capabilities of SimTread based on customer feedback and provide Vectorworks users the best tool possible.”

Nemetschek Vectorworks Opens Office in Atlanta

www.vectorworks.net
ATLANTA, GA, USA, Sep 12, 2015 - With an objective of reaching emerging software engineers and a thriving metro population of over five and a half million people, global design software developer Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. officially opened the doors of its Atlanta office. The main goal of this office is to employ software engineers who will further develop the Vectorworks product line, serving the AEC, landscape and entertainment design industries.

Located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta on Regions Plaza’s 19th floor, the new office boasts 3,700 square feet and can hold up to 25 people. Additionally, the location is in close proximity to the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), four MARTA stations and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

“Several factors contributed to our decision to open the Atlanta office, but location was a prime reason,” said Dr. Biplab Sarkar, chief technology officer of Nemetschek Vectorworks. “We wanted our next location to be easy to travel to and in the same time zone as our headquarters in Maryland. The impressive Georgia Tech feeder system was also a highly attractive factor.”

Georgia Tech is graduating some of the best talent in the engineering industry. Further, Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering has been cited as one of the best values in American higher education by publications such as the Fiske Guide to Colleges, The Princeton Review and Kiplinger Business Magazine because of its high academic quality and relatively low cost. The undergraduate engineering program at Georgia Tech ranked 4th in the 2015 “America’s Best Colleges” edition of U.S. News & World Report.

Additional contributing factors to the opening of the Nemetschek Vectorworks Atlanta office include:
  • The affordability for emerging professionals and families because the cost of living is $0.90 below the national average
  • The 2.4% job growth rate, which is above the national average
  • Startups and major corporations, such as Coca-Cola, Home Depot and UPS, make their corporate home in the Atlanta area, which is positive for the local economy
Software Engineer Jack Gruendler is among the initial employees hired for the Atlanta office. “Writing Vectorworks software is the perfect career combination for my academic background as I have civil engineering and computer science degrees from Georgia Tech,” said Gruendler. “The Midtown location also drew me to the position because I was previously commuting out of the city to the suburbs, where most engineering and software development jobs are currently offered. Now, my commute will be significantly shorter, and I can have an eco-friendly and healthy bicycle commute on the Atlanta BeltLine instead.”

The opening of the Atlanta office is another milestone in Nemetschek Vectorworks’ growth. To learn more about career opportunities with Nemetschek Vectorworks, visit http://www.vectorworks.net/company/careers or follow @VectorworksLife on Twitter.

Jonathan Pickup Updates Training Manuals for Vectorworks 2015

www.vectorworks.net
COLUMBIA, MD, USA, Apr 30, 2015 - The release of Vectorworks Architect 2015 software by global design software developer Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. has prompted the availability of two updates to the company’s Vectorpress series of guidebooks, which are developed to help users make the most of their software. Expert trainer Jonathan Pickup has authored both titles, Vectorworks Architect Tutorial Manual, Seventh Edition and 3D Modeling in Vectorworks, Seventh Edition, providing new and experienced users alike with professional training tools at their fingertips.

Vectorworks Architect Tutorial Manual explains how to incorporate Vectorworks 2015’s tools into a design-based BIM workflow and how new ways of drawing can increase efficiency, all while taking readers through the basics of the software interface. Pickup’s manual breaks down each topic into three steps: read a section of text, watch a video and then complete an exercise. Sections begin with an introduction to the Vectorworks Architect platform and progress through the completion of a mock project for a residential client, including how to generate contract documents. Readers learn how drawing with objects, rather than lines and arcs, and creating projects using BIM principles can improve their workflows.

“What BIM means is that when you draw something in Vectorworks software, it’s more than just a plan representation,” said Pickup. “Many parts of a Vectorworks drawing are much more than they seem. A door, for example, has a model part to which you can attach information about the door, add door hardware or even indicate the supplier and cost of the door. This information can be generated as a report whenever you want it.”

The second updated tutorial, 3D Modeling in Vectorworks, is laid out in three parts. Part one educates readers on using the software’s tools to create 3D models on an individual basis. Part two reveals how to use the technology to create a freeform architectural project. Part three shows the workflow in action, allowing readers to learn to split up projects. The book also contains exercises that feature the new Deform tool, teaching readers the twisting, tapering, building and bending modes.

“Jonathan Pickup’s no nonsense books, with their easy-to-follow graphics and video tutorials, make his manuals the default standard for training on all the Vectorworks packages,” says Architectural Technologist Stephen J. Scaysbrook, MCIAT ACIOB, of Konstrukshon Ltd. “I love the way that Jonathan teaches both Vectorworks software and drawing techniques.”

The Vectorworks Architect Tutorial Manual and 3D Modeling in Vectorworks are part of Nemetschek Vectorworks’ self-paced training options. For more information and to purchase these manuals for $75 each, visit www.vectorworks.net/training/guides.php.

Books will also be available for purchase when Pickup signs copies of his books on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET in the Paris Foyer at the Sofitel Philadelphia Hotel. All registered attendees of the Vectorworks Design Summit are welcome to attend.

COLUMBIA, MD, USA, Apr 30,  2015 - As part of its commitment to helping students succeed, global design software developer Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. has launched the 2015 Vectorworks Design Scholarship program. Students from across all design disciplines around the world are encouraged to submit their best individual or group work by Monday, August 31, 2015 for the opportunity to win up to $10,000 USD.

The submission process is simple; students submit their best project, which may include work completed for a class assignment, and answer three questions, each in 150 words or less. An esteemed panel of judges will evaluate submissions on the basis of design integrity, effective use of computer technology and originality, as well as the articulation and communication of a design vision.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s visionaries, solving all types of design challenges that the Vectorworks Design Scholarship program lets us celebrate,” said Stewart Rom, chief marketing officer at Nemetschek Vectorworks. “We established this program to support their academic dreams by offering financial assistance, and we can’t wait to see the inspiring work that students submit this year!”

In its second year, the scholarship program supports the next generation of creative potential on two levels. First, regional winners receive $3,000 USD and advance to compete for The Richard Diehl Award in round two for an additional $7,000 USD. Winnings can be applied to tuition, housing, textbooks, studying abroad, conference fees or other educational purposes. Additionally, winners’ schools receive free Vectorworks design software, as well as free in-person or virtual training for faculty and students.

The Richard Diehl Award is a global award named for the founder and chairman of Nemetschek Vectorworks. Through the scholarship, Diehl strives to inspire young minds and give students the tools needed to develop ideas from concept to completion.

Nemetschek Localizes Vectorworks 2015 for China

www.vectorworks.net
COLUMBIA, MD, USA, Apr 29, 2015 - Global design software developer Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. has released the Chinese-language version of the Vectorworks 2015 line of design software, including Vectorworks Designer, Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Fundamentals and Renderworks.

The Vectorworks 2015 software contains more than 100 updates and new features in the areas of architecture, BIM, urban planning and entertainment design. In previous versions, the power of 64-bit was only available in the platform’s photo-realistic rendering engine, Renderworks, but has now been integrated throughout the entire Vectorworks 2015 product line, providing designers with the ability to handle larger projects, as well as better performance and stability. In addition, designers will observe a revolutionary graphical experience from advances made to the Vectorworks Graphics Module (VGM).

“Updates for the 2015 Vectorworks software have been made with designers’ best interests in mind,” said Cecil Fung, managing director of Mad Macs Technology Distributions Limited, the Vectorworks distributor in China. “For instance, the 64-bit feature is beneficial when considering and adopting an improved design solution in China because the geographical scale of projects in the country and the common composition of multi-disciplinary teams often demand the computational and coordination efficiencies that the program provides.”

Kevin Lee Allen Updates Entertainment Design Instructional Guide

www.vectorworks.net
COLUMBIA, MD, USA, Apr 3, 2015 - Authored by award-winning scenic and lighting designer, Kevin Lee Allen, Entertainment Design: Scenery, Lighting, and Sound with Vectorworks Spotlight, 4th Edition provides readers with tutorial-based design techniques applicable to film, television, concerts, exhibits and more. Allen updated the instructional guide to complement the release of Vectorworks Spotlight with Renderworks 2015 software developed by Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc.

The guide outlines a process for design development and collaboration with other designers and technical staff. Specifically, Entertainment Design explores the creation of scenic, lighting and sound designs for a theoretical Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet. Readers will also learn how to create a simple 3D object.

In addition to reflecting the features in Vectorworks 2015 software, the fourth edition of the guidebook will help readers:
  • Use the new Deform tool to bend, taper or create a bulge with practically any geometric object.
  • Create temporary platforms with Stage Deck tools and model supports with Stage Lift tools.
  • Directly edit Lighting Position objects.
  • Work with new rendering styles such as White Model style.
Readers will also be introduced to the Vectorworks Remote App, which connects mobile devices to a Vectorworks desktop using a remote connection plug-in. The app allows users to interactively use the device like a remote to view, navigate and present designs without having to be at their desktops.

“Kevin Lee Allen’s books and accompanying tutorials have been tremendously helpful as I transitioned to Vectorworks as my go-to drafting software,” said Tom Palmer, partner and creative director at Palmer Schwartz Agency. “I can’t think of a better investment in Vectorworks education than purchasing this training guide.”

Nemetschek Localizes Vectorworks 2015 for Japan

www.vectorworks.net
COLUMBIA, MD, USA, Jan 20, 2015 - Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc., a provider of intuitive, powerful and practical 2D/3D and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software solutions, is excited to announce the release of the Japanese-language version of the award-winning Vectorworks 2015 product line that includes Designer, Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Fundamentals and Renderworks.

To supplement localized European and Spanish-language releases of Vectorworks 2015 last fall, Nemetschek Vectorworks’ Japanese distributor, A&A Co., Ltd., hosted events at six major cities in Japan in the weeks leading up to today’s launch, attracting crowds of hundreds of designers wanting to test out the platform’s new capabilities. Vectorworks 2015 software features over 100 updates and new features in the areas of architecture, BIM, urban planning and entertainment design. In addition, the power of 64-bit is now integrated throughout the entire product line, allowing designers to create larger projects with increased performance and stability. These improvements are complemented with a new graphical experience due to advances made to the Vectorworks Graphics Module.

“We are showing designers all over Japan how Vectorworks software has evolved to enable them to improve their workflows and bring their ideas to reality,” said Eiichi Kawase, President, A&A Co., Ltd. “The software’s integral focus on inviting users to discover new possibilities really speaks to everyone who experiences the new release.”

Nemetschek Vectorworks’ CEO Sean Flaherty and Architect Product Specialist Jeffrey Ouellette, Assoc. AIA, IES, participated in pre-launch events in Tokyo and Osaka, where they engaged with users.

“We sensed strong enthusiasm for the new release, which is great to see because Japan is our largest market and boasts our biggest concentration of large-seat firms—many with hundreds or thousands of licenses each,” says Flaherty. “We heard from customers that they’re particularly interested in the Vectorworks Remote App, Deform tool, new gradient options, enhanced text editing features and the seamless, visual transitions between 2D and 3D models. We look forward to strengthening our position and supporting continued growth in Japan following A&A’s July 2014 acquisition by technology giant Canon IT Solutions, a division of Canon Corporation and one of the largest software and IT retailers in the country.”
