AVEVA Software Licenses to Support Korean Engineering Courses

http://www.aveva.com
SEOUL, South Korea, Aug 14, 2015 - AVEVA announced that software licenses for some of its most popular products including AVEVA Everything3D and AVEVA Bocad will be provided through AVEVA’s Academic Initiative to support engineering courses at the Yeosu Petrochemical High School and Seoul Urban Science Technical High School. Students taking modules in areas such as Process Handling, Process Facility and Process Electrical & Instrumentation will now receive access to AVEVA’s industry leading 3D design, engineering and steel fabrication software to develop important engineering skills.

AVEVA attended a signing ceremony with Seoul Urban Science Technical High School on 29 June 2015. The signing ceremony with Yeosu Petrochemical High School took place on the 9 July 2015. Hi-Tech Engineering, a prominent engineering company based in Yeosu City, signed an MOU with Yeosu Petrochemical High School in 2014, agreeing to employ a number of students from the school after graduation.

‘Teaching the use of AVEVA software on our curriculum gives students practical hands-on experience with the technology they will use throughout their careers’, said YoungMan Cho, Principal of Yeosu Petrochemical High School. ‘They can simulate the design of plants in a collaborative working environment. Institutions like ours, working alongside AVEVA and Hi-Tech Engineering, can ensure that the petrochemical complex in Yeosu continues to operate its production facilities efficiently and safely as new engineers join the industry.’

‘It is important for Korea to invest in highly skilled young engineers in order to meet a demand that is often fulfilled with foreign talent’, said TaeIn Park, Teacher, Seoul Urban Science Technical High School. ‘As older engineers retire and the industry continues to grow, the need for future employment is greater than ever. It is interesting for students to see how engineering software such as AVEVA’s relates to the real world, for example, in the design of plant facilities.’

SangWook Ham, Vice President, Head of EPC and Marine Sales, NEA, AVEVA added, ‘By supporting programmes like the ones at Yeosu Petrochemical High School and Seoul Urban Science Technical High School, AVEVA is giving graduates the confidence and skills they need to enter the work force and make an immediate contribution to engineering companies and Owner Operators alike.’

Yeosu Petrochemical High School and Seoul Urban Science Technical High School are part of a network of over 40 Meister Schools, specifically designed to prepare young people for work in high-skilled manufacturing jobs and other fields. With support from the South Korean government they near-guarantee employment to graduates, follow an industry-supported curriculum design, and focuses on developing skills required by various trades while exposing students to the workplace. The AVEVA Academic Initiative benefits educational institutions, their students, employers, and the global engineering community. AVEVA's educational partners range from local vocational training centres to the world’s most prestigious postgraduate universities. Common to all is a dedication to developing engineering skills that can be applied directly in the process plant, power and marine industries. For more information, visit www.aveva.com/academic.

Bricsys Releases BricsCAD V15.3

http://www.bricsys.com
GENT, Belgium, Aug 13, 2015 - Bricsys announces the release of BricsCAD V15.3. Now available for download, version 15.3 is an update that offers new and improved features.

The major update includes the following highlights.

BIM database

The BIM database consists of Building Materials and Compositions, stored in a Project database. A Building Material contains information about one specific material, a Composition contains information about the structure of a building element, by defining Composition layers.

Compositions

A Composition describes the structure of a Building Element by an ordered set of Composition layers. To each Building Material or Composition, any number of tags can be attached. Tags can be used as a filter on the database.

Multiple BIM Projects

To reuse compositions and building materials across multiple BIM Projects, a Library database can be specified, in addition to the Project database. To maintain and extend BIM databases, users can drag Building Materials and Compositions from one database to the other.

Flexibility

The same flexibility as we offer in modeling, we offer in attaching building information. All BIM database features are accessible from the dockable BIM Compositions panel.

For the full list of changes, see the Release Notes section on the Bricsys Web site.

Delcam Launches PowerSHAPE Pro 2016

http://www.delcam.com
BIRMINGHAM, UK, Aug 11, 2015 - Delcam has added a series of enhancements to its PowerSHAPE Pro software for modelling and reverse engineering that will help users to complete complex designs more quickly and more easily. In addition, a combination of new, more efficient, code and the extension of multi-threaded calculations to many commonly-used tasks will make the software significantly faster than any previous version.

By offering a combination of solid, surface and direct modelling, together with reverse engineering, PowerSHAPE Pro provides the most comprehensive range of design techniques available in a single CAD program. Having all the different technologies in the same package reduces the need to transfer data between multiple programs and so streamlines any modelling-for-manufacture projects that require both reverse-engineering and CAD functionality.

The first enhancement in the 2016 release allows groups of features to be copied between two solids in a single operation. While the features do not need to be of the same type, the most common application is expected to be in copying patterns of holes with a single click from one solid to another, for example from one mould plate to any other plate in the mould stack.

Another new option to save modelling time is the ability to edit the axis direction of any number of surface or solid primitives simultaneously. Similarly, the axis direction of a group of primitives that are not aligned can be brought into alignment in one operation. PowerSHAPE Pro already had the ability to edit simultaneously the dimensions of groups of primitives.

For customers using PowerSHAPE Pro to capture data for reverse engineering, the software can connect directly to most scanning hardware to capture and display scan data in real time. In the 2016 release, it has been made easier to switch between measuring modes when using devices that offer data collection by both laser scanning and point probing.

Reverse engineering has been made easier for prismatic parts, with the new ability to identify planes, cylinders, cones and other primitives, or to create wireframe arcs and lines, directly from probed points. This approach can often be more accurate than using scan data to create prismatic areas of a model.

The ability to replace regions of complex, free-form geometry with a single, shrink-wrap surface was introduced in PowerSHAPE Pro 2014 R2. In the new release, it has been made easier to re-orient such surfaces interactively and so place them in the most appropriate surface alignment.

In addition to these new options, a wide range of speed improvements has been made to the core modelling functions. Specific items affected include opening and displaying models in both wireframe and shaded views, displaying any single layer that had previously been drawn, projecting curves onto multiple surfaces, replaying complex solid history trees, selecting solid features, either graphically or using the history tree, and selecting multiple faces of a solid.

The degree of improvement varies according to the size and complexity of the model but can be as much as 40% faster with larger models.
