COLUMBIA, MD, USA, Jan 20, 2015 - Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc., a provider of intuitive, powerful and practical 2D/3D and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software solutions, is excited to announce the release of the Japanese-language version of the award-winning Vectorworks 2015 product line that includes Designer, Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Fundamentals and Renderworks.

To supplement localized European and Spanish-language releases of Vectorworks 2015 last fall, Nemetschek Vectorworks’ Japanese distributor, A&A Co., Ltd., hosted events at six major cities in Japan in the weeks leading up to today’s launch, attracting crowds of hundreds of designers wanting to test out the platform’s new capabilities. Vectorworks 2015 software features over 100 updates and new features in the areas of architecture, BIM, urban planning and entertainment design. In addition, the power of 64-bit is now integrated throughout the entire product line, allowing designers to create larger projects with increased performance and stability. These improvements are complemented with a new graphical experience due to advances made to the Vectorworks Graphics Module.

“We are showing designers all over Japan how Vectorworks software has evolved to enable them to improve their workflows and bring their ideas to reality,” said Eiichi Kawase, President, A&A Co., Ltd. “The software’s integral focus on inviting users to discover new possibilities really speaks to everyone who experiences the new release.”

Nemetschek Vectorworks’ CEO Sean Flaherty and Architect Product Specialist Jeffrey Ouellette, Assoc. AIA, IES, participated in pre-launch events in Tokyo and Osaka, where they engaged with users.

“We sensed strong enthusiasm for the new release, which is great to see because Japan is our largest market and boasts our biggest concentration of large-seat firms—many with hundreds or thousands of licenses each,” says Flaherty. “We heard from customers that they’re particularly interested in the Vectorworks Remote App, Deform tool, new gradient options, enhanced text editing features and the seamless, visual transitions between 2D and 3D models. Piaggio Adopts Zuken's E3.series for Wire Harness Design

http://www.zuken.com/en
MUNICH, Germany and WESTFORD, MA, USA, Jan 20, 2015 – Piaggio Group, the Italian leader of the European powered two-wheeler market, has adopted Zuken’s E3.series to support increasing cabling complexity and volume and to enhance their electrical design efficiency and quality.

E3.series is Zuken’s powerful electrical CAD tool for electrical wiring, control systems and fluid engineering design.

Piaggio’s Mp3 Hybrid - the world’s first scooter with parallel hybrid drive and plug-in technology

The Piaggio Group, which owns several prestigious scooter and motorcycle brands including Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi, faced changing requirements to their electrical design process. Global expansion brought an increase in the number of product specifications for different markets, so they needed to streamline their design processes and reduce their time-to-market to accommodate the increased scale of operations.

We looked for a tool to give an end-to-end design path from schematic capture to physical design. One of the reasons E3.series stood out is its inbuilt electrical intelligence. This will help us reduce rework and add digital prototyping into our engineering design process to satisfy challenging time-to-market and quality demands. Piaggio Group previously used a generic rather than wiring harness-dedicated 2D design tool for cabling design, but it was unable to meet stringent new cost effectiveness, global parts unification and time efficiency targets. We selected E3.series after benchmarking several CAD tools. Luigi Baracchino, Piaggio Electrical Engineering Manager

The Piaggio Typhoon 50 2T motorcycle

Baracchino explained that E3.series also fulfilled their requirement to be able to exchange data with their existing 3D CAD tools: a virtual digital mockup of the vehicle can be designed in advance, shortening the development time, reducing costs and, above all, increasing the overall product quality and reliability to a level not previously possible.

The company is currently using E3.series at their engineering center in Pontedera, Italy, and they plan to roll out the software to other sites soon.

The Piaggio Group plays a leading role in transportation history and its scooters have become synonymous worldwide with urban cool living, with a strong accent on innovative solutions. The Piaggio Mp3 was the first modern three-wheeled scooter, and the Mp3 Hybrid was the world’s first scooter with parallel hybrid drive and plug-in technology on its launch in 2010.

Vero Introduces Alphacam 2015 R1

http://www.verosoftware.com
GLOUCESTERSHIRE, UK, Jan 16, 2015 - Vero Software announces Alphacam 2015 R1. The inclusion of a host of new and enhanced functionality in Alphacam 2015 R1 from Vero Software ensures manufacturers can compete in a global economy.

The latest release is the largest ever delivered by the Alphacam development team and a release they are very proud of. The focus has been on helping manufacturers drive down costs, by speeding up their design and production processes, improving efficiency, productivity and profitability.

A new advanced 5-axis machining module is introduced in Alphacam 2015 R1, which includes a comprehensive set of strategies with advanced tool axis control and intelligent collision avoidance, to quickly and accurately machine surface and solid models. Alphacam General Manager Nick Spurrett says: “Incorporating the Moduleworks technology into Alphacam shows our commitment to the complex Advanced 5 axis market. The new toolpaths can also be analyzed against the machine tool constraints using Alphacam’s 5-axis independent toolpath optimizer.”

He says, a new ribbon bar interface brings Alphacam 2015 R1 right up to date as far as interface technology exists, the new interface enables users to quickly find the commands they need, as they are arranged in logical groups, assembled together under tabs. “Each tab relates to a type of activity, such as creating geometry, or machining,” he says. “Clear icons and text labels ensure that commands are easily recognizable and accessible.”

The Quick Access Toolbar can be displayed above or below the ribbon bar and includes the most commonly used commands, such as Open and Save. Users can customize the ribbon bar by adding their own favorites. “We have 50 new icons in Alphacam, because ribbons have replaced menus.” All Alphacam modules, including Alphaedit, have the new ribbon GUI.

Also new in 2015 R1 is aggregate tool holders. “They are a welcome addition in the new release, enabling users to define them with geometry extrusions and rotations, STL and solid CAD models. Users can now create a library of toolholders. These toolholders, or aggregates, can either be extruded, evolved geometry or solids. Common applications of aggregates are horizontal routing and drilling. C-axis aggregates are also supported in Alphacam simulation.”

Significant updates to the Project Manager give it a more contemporary look, including specific icons for each Operation type. And the new look File menu now includes a Recent Files page listing Alphacam and CAD parts files, displaying a preview image and their properties.

Multi-drill heads now have graphical support – as with the aggregates, they can be defined using geometry extrusions and rotations, STL and solid CAD models. Tools are loaded and selected in Project Manager and fully simulated.

Using the View Comparison function compares the part with the machining operations. “This means manufacturers can see whether there is any stock left, and allows them to select an alternative or extra machining operation” says Nick Spurrett.

Finally, the ability to import files from Google Sketchup adds to the extensive list of third-party file formats which Alphacam supports.

Delcam Releases PowerMILL 2015 R2

http://www.delcam.com
BIRMINGHAM, UK, Jan 16, 2015 - Delcam has released the 2015 R2 version of its PowerMILL programming software for five-axis and high-speed machining. The new release includes improvements in toolpath simulation and verification, area clearance and drilling, plus more options for customization by users.

In the 2015 R2 release, complete verification can be undertaken of a project for machine-tool issues such as collisions, rather than having to undertake verification of each individual toolpath in turn. Comprehensive verification is performed, including ensuring that the machine tool is capable of running the proposed strategy, as well as checking for both machine-tool collisions and tooling collisions. A detailed list is generated of any problems found so that these can be fixed on a case-by-case basis.

In related improvement, automatic collision checking of area-clearance toolpaths now takes into account any remaining stock on a model, both when checking the cutter and the tool-holder. In addition, all tool-holder collision checking for area clearance takes place during toolpath calculation, allowing the user to ensure that these toolpaths can be completely free of tool-holder collisions.

Simulation has also been improved with the addition of the ability to simulate machine-tool movements as tool changes are executed. Again, a list of any problems found is produced so they can be corrected.

Two enhancements have been made to the drilling options in PowerMILL. Firstly, drilling calculations can now reference a stock model instead of the block, with toolpaths created from the point when the tool touches the stock. This reduces the time spent air cutting. Secondly, drills larger that the milling tool can be used when using drilling to create an entry point for area clearance. Alternatively, a larger entry hole can be created by helical ramping of the tool.

The options for user customization have been increased steadily over the last few releases of PowerMILL. These now include the ability to create keyboard shortcuts for menu items, toolbar items, custom commands or macros, allowing frequently-used commands to be accessed more quickly. Another new option allows expression fields to be added to custom toolbars.

For further details on PowerMILL 2015 R2, including video demonstrations of the new functionality, visit www.delcam.tv/pm2015/lz
